im small and pretty strong but am looking for "passive" self defence, the kind where you don’t necessarily attack the person but just disarm their attacks against you.
No guns, I’m talking about martial arts here! No abbreviatations either – I don’t know what they mean

From what you are describing aikido sounds like your kind of thing. Aikido is a non agressive martial art the entire point is to subdue your opponent with as little force or agression as you can. Aikido is all about non resistance and not using force. It comes natural to women as it does not use physical strength. (which is hard for most men). the techniques you are taught are meant to just stress or stretch the opponent, or throw him with little ill effect. It does not mean that it can not do damage. The locks and throws can be used with very brutal effect if necessary (break limbs, dislocate members, kill,…) but of course that is not it’s intent
Aikido is as our founder said it is the art of peace

I’m returning to London for a while after living abroad and what really worries me is how much its changed. I no longer feel safe walking around my old neighbour hood and would like to take a self defence or survival course. thing is i’m a bit broke so it would have to be cheap. I’ll be based in East London, Barking Area. Any suggestions?

If the law allowed Battered Woman Sydrome to become a an official defense rather using Manslaughter or self-defence what evidence is needed?

You need to go to some sort of psycho therapy and find out if you do suffer from Battered Women’s Syndrome.

After that depending of the finding from the psychotherapist, it depends on what the District Attorney in the area is willing to charge you with.

Let your lawyer know what’s going on and get advice from them. They more educated to give you the facts other than some guesses we could tell you.

Good Luck :)

I would like to know where I can learn to make full use of this weapon, more for self defence.

By telescopic are you talking about a police "asp"? The difficult thing about striking with an asp is that the only part to do damage is the very tip of it. When it hits however it can devistate.

If you want to learn how to strike with a normal baton or stick, try Escrima or silat.

I need to join a self defence class in New Zealand tha very interesting and enjoyable and cheap too. I used to be doing gym stuff that about 15-20yras ago now I am 40yrs old, 5′10” tall and 126kg.

Aikido i think is the best for only defence

it teaches only for self defence,, not for fighting
there are so many movements which are just for weakening our opposite,, it hurts cause its positions make our opposite will get hurt more if they move

hope that helps :)

Where should I go to learn self defence? I want to be able to defend my self not fight, and if anyone goes to these courses, have you learned anything or is it a waste?

I would recommend bujinkan ninjutsu since it focuses a lot on self defense even against multiple attackers.
