If you've ever seen a street fight, you may have noticed there are many different stages to it. It can start far apart with taunts, go into punches and kicks and end up on the ground with both parties wrestling. There may even be biting and scratching, which goes to show there are no rules in the real world. This furious dynamism makes it difficult for one martial art form to do everything. Which is why the best martial artists in the world are masters of several forms.

At Noway Martial Arts, we mix different systems which gives the student the flexibility to adapt to the situation. This is something everybody can benefit from. Not just the professional soldier or cop. If you're confronted on the street, grabbed from behind or knocked down, we can show you how to escape and get away.

Even if you're faced with armed opponents and/or multiple attackers. One skilled person can do a lot against two or three unskilled thugs. We favor the Filipino martial art called Kali and base our training on this very elegant form. It's not fancy or ceremonial. There are no high kicks and leaps that can leave you exposed. Kali is very straightforward.

If you've ever seen the the movie adaptation of Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Identity, you'll know what we mean. Although it's fictional, Matt Damon's character demonstrates it's efficiency and speed. It stresses a very contained strategy of blocks, traps and destruction techniques. The latter is the disabling of your opponents means of fighting. So if he throws a punch at you, you attack the fist he thoughtfully offers you. You can end the fight in one move. We also utilize two stick training early on since it helps coordination and replicates everything your hands do. So if you can block a stick, which will be twice as fast as your hand, you'll have no problem blocking a punch!
