My Name is Duane Yoshito Walden and I have been teaching martial arts for 20 years. Click here to view my resume*. The instructor that has had the most profound influence on my teaching and my life is Paul Vunak, the president of Progressive Fighting Systems. I received my Phase One Instructor Certification in Jeet Kune Do Concepts and the Filipino Martial Arts from Paul in June of 1995. In 1999, I was stationed in Virginia while I was in the U.S. Navy and received a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (2001) and a Full Instructor Certificate in Jeet Kune Do Concepts and Filipino Kali (2002) from Chris Anderson of Universal Fighting Systems (UFS). I also trained in Combat Sambo and Muay Thai Boxing in the UFS system for 4 years. While I was stationed onboard my ship the USS Stump DD 978, I taught the VBSS (Visit, Board, Search, and Seize) teams self-defense while in the Persian Gulf in 2001. After 9-11, I attended the prestigious Blackwater Training Facility in Blackwater, North Carolina for classes in Shipboard Security Engagement Weapons and Force Protection Fundamentals. As of April 21, 2006 I am now one of a select number of people who can call themselves a Certified Executive Instructor for the new Executive PFS as taught by Paul Vunak.

Over the past three years I have been an instructor for Watchful Eye, whose main emphasis is Edged Weapon Defense and the application of the Filipino Martial Arts for law enforcement. I also attended the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy run by Professor Fabio Santos in San Diego, California, during 2004-2005. My path has also taken me to practice Yoga at Liberation Yoga in Los Angeles, California.
